Still photographic equipment is still the realm of top professionals who realize that (1) resolution superior to digital is determined by the randomness of silver particles, as opposed to the raster of pixels, and the option to simply go to larger film format, (2) the diversity of design among film cameras will not be duplicated in digital cameras for decades to come, and (3) the romance and intimacy of darkroom chemistry as opposed to "paint by numbers" like every other kid on the block. Then,of course, there are the collectors who love the "hands on" feel just like collectors of cars and guns and toy trains. There is a sense of security in knowing about gears and optics and the lifespan of metals, as opposed to trying to understand the math and electronic theory of plastic cameras that become obsolete before you've taken a hundred pictures with them. What digital camera can take overhead and around the corner pictures like a twin lens reflex can? What digital projector can project a 40' image on a screen with the resolution of a superslide or lantern slide? How many soon to be obsolete digital cameras will you buy to execute underwater photography, astronomical photography, microscopic photography, super wide angle photography. For some purposes, film cameras can still do a better job for less money than digital, and that classic hunk of metal and glass feels "real" in your hand.
